: To help support the hospitality industry – and to further encourage diners to enjoy local restaurants across London, Manchester and Birmingham – OpenTable, a global leader in restaurant technology, has, for the third year running, joined forces with Mastercard to launch Dine Local this autumn (7th November to 6th December).
Dine Local will see OpenTable and Mastercard offering £10 cashback to people who register their eligible Mastercard and spend £50 or more on that card dining-in between 7th November – 6th December at a participating restaurant booked via OpenTable3. Up to 70 restaurants across London, Manchester and Birmingham are taking part in the campaign.
One of the main motivations of UK diners to dine locally is to support family-run or smaller restaurants over big chains (55%), with 53% of Brits doing so as they are aware the hospitality industry is struggling due to issues including the cost of living crisis, rising cost of energy, and the ongoing staffing crisis. This figure increases to 74% among Gen Z (18-24-year-olds).
When asked about Christmas festivities (1 November to 1 January) specifically, UK diners indicated they are still set to celebrate as usual this year, with nearly half (48%) planning to spend the same amount of money when dining out, and nearly a third (30%) planning on spending more, with the average total spend being £133.09.
Lucy Taylor, VP, EMEA, OpenTable comments: “Data shows that UK diners are keen to help local restaurants where they can, voting with their wallets to back family-run and smaller businesses as a result of the ever-evolving headwinds the hospitality industry is currently facing.
“Partnering with Mastercard, we’re working to support both restaurants and diners this autumn. Dine Local is a brilliant opportunity to showcase and celebrate local restaurants across London, Manchester, Birmingham, encouraging UK diners to support the hospitality industry where they can.”
Agnes Woolrich, VP Marketing and Communications UK&I, Mastercard comments: “We’re delighted to be partnering with OpenTable for the third consecutive year to support local restaurants and their diners. As inflation adds to the cost of eating out, the Dine Local 2022 campaign rewards people with £10 cashback when they spend £50 or more with their Mastercard at participating OpenTable restaurants.”
Dine Local follows Dine London, an initiative launched by OpenTable in September to get Londoners to fall back in love with and support the capital’s restaurants through a bookable pop-up experience, curated restaurant guides, offers and a series of videos showcasing chefs’ guides to London restaurants.
