Since returning to College, students and staff at Impington International College, based on the outskirts of Cambridge, have been commending a summer of sporting successes achieved by the College’s students around the world.

Year 13 student, Jake P., was crowned as an international champion when representing England in the English Schools Golf Association Boys’ International Schools’ Match, which took place on 29 August. After a hard-fought contest, England emerged as winners defeating Wales by a score of 16 ½ to 4 ½.

Elsewhere, Year 13 student Asha H., represented Great Britain playing Handball (under 17s), in the Parades Cup in Porto, Portugal. This was the first time that the Under 17 cohort had travelled internationally for a match, during which they competed against Portuguese club sides, 20-year-olds and younger. The competition gave Asha the opportunity to put his training to practice during the competitive games, helping to build confidence and a better understanding of game strategy.

Rounding off the list of international sporting superstars, Year 13 student Kate B., celebrated her final match representing England in the England Colleges National Women’s Hockey team throughout 2021 – 2022.

Welcoming the student’s home, Assistant Principal, Pippa Mugan, commented: “I am delighted to see so many of our students shine bright on the international sports stage. We are immensely proud to be able to offer a range of dedicated Sports Scholarships for all genders at Impington International College, which enable our students to benefit from specialist teaching by elite coaches, play weekly matches and undertake training alongside their academic studies.”

At Impington International College, students can combine their academic studies with specialist sports coaching, which enables them to develop their skills alongside learning. The College works with leading national and regional teams including: Cambridge Handball Club, Norwich City Football Club, Rob Roy Rowing Club and Serena Guthrie and Legacy, to provide students with six hours of professional coaching a week. Students can take three pathways as part of the scholarship: to be a professional player; physiotherapist; or business.
