This year, Halloween is set to be a huge celebration in the UK with 57% of Brits planning to mark the occasion. But the pressure is on to get a good costume sorted as 45% of people plan to dress up specifically to get likes on social media.
The clock is ticking to find the picture-perfect fancy dress outfit however, especially considering over a third (39%) feel pressured to impress with their costumes. In fact, many don’t even know where to begin with 65% saying they struggle for inspiration coming up with an outfit that will ‘wow’ others. Even when they’ve decided on the costume, people are after a helping hand to make sure they’re looking their best as nearly a third wish they had someone to do incredible make up for them and one in five would love someone to source a costume for them.
To help those wanting to go all out and rake in the likes on social media, M&M’S has enlisted the help of celebrity stylist Gok Wan to offer free Halloween makeovers in M&M’S World, London. Alongside a team of make-up artists, Gok will be stationed at M&M’S World on October 31st from 3pm – 7pm to give people a Halloween makeover. (Appointments must be booked in advance.)
Commenting on the Halloween makeovers, Gok Wan said: “Over a third of people say Halloween is their favourite time of the year, which is probably got something to do with getting all dressed up and having fun with friends and family! And I cannot endorse that enough, and is the reason I’ve teamed up with M&Ms to help get some of you lucky people fabulous and primed for your next Instagram snap!”
Witches’ outfits have been revealed as the UK’s favourite Halloween costumes which comes as no surprise following the recent release of Hocus Pocus 2, closely followed by ghosts and zombies. Whilst the classics still clearly reign supreme when it comes to iconic looks, 21% say they turn to TV and film for costume inspiration and are most impressed by outfits that involve incredible make up (14%).
Leah Dyckes, M&M’S Brand Director, commented: “Celebrating Halloween is getting bigger and bigger and with that comes the desire to step up the costume game. Whether it’s finding the perfect trick or treating outfit to smashing the party fancy dress we’re delighted to have Gok Wan as our M&M’S spooktacular stylist to inspire confidence and help people get in the Halloween spirit.”
Whilst fancy dress is high on the agenda of Halloween plans, almost a third (32%) say that sweets and chocolate remain their favourite part of Halloween.
