BRITONS are overwhelmingly in favour of the Monarchy and have been hugely impressed by King Charles in the days since the Queen’s death, a new poll reveals.
The poll by GB News indicated there is clear support for a monarchy instead of an elected head of state.
Of those surveyed by GB News, 63% of respondents said they were in favour of keeping the monarchy.
Only 19% – less than one in five – opted for the alternative.
The People’s Poll also returned good results for King Charles III, with 57% saying had a favourable opinion of the new monarch.
And his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, received an outpouring of emotion with 74% of Brits saying her legacy was “good for the country”.
The poll result comes as thousands of mourners visit London to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II.
Huge queues are forming along the banks of the River Thames, as people wait to pay their respects to the Queen.
Her lying-in-state will continue 24 hours a day until 06:30 BST on Monday 19 September – the day of the funeral.
Queen Elizabeth II will be interred with the Duke of Edinburgh in King George VI’s Memorial Chapel in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in a private service at 7.30pm on Monday.
But the burial service conducted by the Dean of Windsor and attended by the King and royals will remain entirely private, as a “deeply personal family occasion”.
King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward will mount a 15-minute vigil around the Queen’s coffin as it lies in state at 7.30pm on Friday.
After the funeral, the King and members of the Royal Family will walk behind the coffin to Wellington Arch when it leaves Westminster Abbey, before it is driven to Windsor on the state hearse.
