B&DWEC – 30062268 – The four winning Pride in the Job Site Managers from Essex
Four of the site managers oversee the delivery of new homes in Essex and have earnt a top industry Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC). These prestigious awards are known as the “Oscars of the housebuilding industry”.
Nationally, site managers working for Barratt and David Wilson Homes and its parent company Barratt Developments have won 98 Pride in the Job Quality Awards this year, achieving more honours than any other housebuilder for 18 years in a row.
Barratt Homes Senior Site Manager, Alex Bott – who oversees the High Elms Park development in Essex – has now received his third consecutive Pride in the Job Award after almost six years with the developer.
Alex (27) said: “Winning this award has felt more special to me than it has done any other year, due to the way the building economy has been and the struggles we’ve faced sourcing materials and labour.
“It’s a testament to all of the hard work of everyone on site, especially from my managers, Garry and John, and my assistants, Andy and Tim.”
Senior Site Managers James Armstrong and Jordan Cannon, alongside Project Manager Rob Ruffy, were also named as winners in this year’s competition.
James (36), who is originally from Southend, started working for David Wilson Homes four years ago and is in charge of the team at the Corinthian Place development in Burnham on Crouch.
He said: “It feels fantastic to have won my fourth Pride in the Job award, and I couldn’t have done it without my team who have supported me throughout the past year.”
The youngest Senior Site Manager to have received an award across the division is 25-year-old Jordan Cannon, who originally joined the company as an Electrical Apprentice nine years ago, before managing the Riverside Grange development in North Fambridge.
He said: “Last year I received my first ever Pride in the Job award, and to have won another this year is an absolute honour.
“I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come during my time with David Wilson Homes, and I want to thank everyone on the site team who has helped me to climb up the ranks since I joined when I was 16.”
Rob Ruffy (48) has been the longest serving Project Manager across the division and has been with the company for over 25 years.
Originally from Maldon, this is Rob’s sixth Quality Award from the NHBC for his exceptional standards at the Mortimer Place development in Hatfield Peverel.
He said: “It’s brilliant to be recognised with a Pride in the Job Award and it’s a testament to how hard the team works to provide top quality homes for our customers.
“After what has been a fairly challenging year, seeing a development come to life is one of the best parts of the job and I’d like to thank my team of contractors and my Assistant Site Manager, Jack Armstrong, for their continued support throughout.”
The Pride in the Job Awards showcase the best site managers in the country who can demonstrate exceptional standards in building new communities, delivering the highest quality homes for their customers. Each site manager is judged on a range of key criteria including health and safety, their technical knowledge, customer service and attention to detail.
Every site manager who is registered with the NHBC is automatically entered into the awards, with just 450 winners being selected from over 11,000 entrants.
The awards also help to build quality standards across both developments and teams, with winning site managers invariably having an assistant site manager working with them. They in turn learn the high standards that are needed to win, increasing quality throughout the industry.
Tom Wright, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We want to make our customers happy by building high quality homes for them. These awards recognise only the best new homes and well-run developments and we are very proud of our record having won more of these awards than any other housebuilder for 18 years in a row.
“Every customer who buys a home built by a site manager who has won a Pride in the Job Quality award can have confidence that their home is of the highest possible quality.”
These awards closely follow Barratt Developments being awarded five stars by its customers for satisfaction in the annual Home Builders Federation (HBF) new homes survey. To be rated five star means that more than 90% of its customers would recommend one of its homes to a friend, with the developer being the only major national housebuilder to be rated five star for 13 years in a row.
