EASF have teamed up with Stowmarket’s Food Museum for their festival this year. With 17 historic buildings set in 88 acres of beautiful countryside, The Museum is a green oasis at the centre of Stowmarket. The Museum collection is rooted in East Anglia and tells broad and inclusive stories.
All tickets to the Festival include full access to the museum site and exhibits. Camping tickets include the chance to camp for the weekend inside the beautiful museum grounds.
Festival chair Marion Leeper says: ‘We are looking forward to telling stories in the fantastic spaces of the Museum, from medieval barns to story circles under the trees. We have a varied and diverse programme.
We have storytellers including the first Storytelling Laureate, Taffy Thomas whose head is bursting with stories, riddles and folklore and Clare Murphy, celebrated for her physical dynamism, wit, and warmth. We are supported by local spoken word stage, ‘GetontheSoapBox’, who are decorating the whole performance site with glorious, recycled bunting and installations. Mai Black, Suffolk writer is bringing her ‘30 Angry Ghosts, rap artist Alim Kamara brings stories from Sierra Leone, Kestrel Morton brings sparking dark tales, and Ed Wilcox gives Shakespeare in drag! There is something for everyone.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, festival goers will be able to enjoy stories told live, mouth to mouth, heart to heart, rediscover an ancient folk tradition and find out that nobody is too old to enjoy a good story. There will also be plenty of free storytelling for museum-goers, and opportunities to join in ceilidhs, story rounds, and many other events.
