Green City is a brand-new event taking place in Chelmsford High Street this summer.
Curated by Chelmsford For You, the city’s Business Improvement District, Green City is a fun and inspiring family event set to bring the city centre to life with a range of FREE entertainment, whilst raising awareness of environmental issues and educating the public in ways they can be more green.
Green City will run in multiple locations across the city centre from Monday 22 – Sunday 28 August 2022. The week-long programme of activities features a family-friendly mix of unique street entertainment, creative installations, fun shows, exciting story sessions, engaging workshops, a local green market and more.
Each element of the event will touch on key environmental topics in a light-hearted and enjoyable way, whilst highlighting how small changes in daily routines can help preserve the planet and ecosystem. Topics include sustainability, plastic waste, waterways, and nature/green spaces.
The exciting event programme is all FREE to enjoy and features a wide range of workshops including creating a recycled T-shirt shopping bag, making your own seed bomb, building a bird feeder, pondlife puppetry, and learning eco-wrapping techniques. They’ll also be an array of fun and educating shows from Too Many Cooks to Book in Danger, and Wildernest to Big Book Tall Tales. On top of this you can expect face-painting, exciting walkabout street performers and our Bee Trail art installations created from recycled waste dotted across the city centre. Plus, we can’t wait for our show-stopping enormous 50ft sperm whale to arrive in the middle of Chelmsford High Street where you’ll venture inside to watch the incredible show, Plastic Ocean. The list continues as visitors can attend the green market on Wednesday 24 August which will feature environmental charities, food, drink and eco products from local businesses.
