THE great niece of Prince Phillip has described how the Queen is a great storyteller who keeps family members enthralled at the dinner table
Princess Xenia of Hohenlohe-Langenb, the great niece of the Queen’s late husband, paid tribute to her in an exclusive interview with GB News.
She said: “She’s very good at telling stories and anecdotes of her travels and her meetings, and she’s got an incredibly dry sense of humour.
“I remember at the wedding of Prince Edward, I was lucky enough to be seated at her table and she had us all in stitches with stories she was telling, because she just has such a sharp eye and such great observations and is able to then retell those stories with a great sense of humour, and a lot of people don’t know that about her I think.
“And she’s incredibly generous to family members and is always interested in hearing what you’re up to as well, which again, I think people underestimate her, her level of detail and interest.”
Princess Xenia, whose grandmother was the eldest sister of the Duke of Edinburgh, also told Patrick Christys on GB News that the Queen is very serious about her faith.
“She is indeed a very spiritual person and I’ve experienced that first hand.
“Every Sunday…I’m sure she will find a moment for herself to potentially have a service at St George’s Chapel or go into prayer, and she’s very sad.
“But as you said, she’s 96, she’s incredible. How we can only wish to be like that when we’re 96.”
She also heaped praise on Prince Charles: “It’s interesting here in Germany, people have an incredibly high regard for all the things that he has managed to do over the years of being the Prince of Wales.
“With the Prince’s Trust, I think I was reading the amount of economic benefit the Prince’s Trust is bringing to the GDP of the UK, which is something staggering like £11 billion over the last ten years.
“The amount of things that he’s achieved through the patronage of all of his organisations, the innovation when it comes to, you know, – we are all seeing this with climate change.
“He’s been talking about it for years and people hadn’t taken him seriously and yet it actually turns out he’s a visionary.
“And so I in a way I think the country can be very grateful that he’s been Prince of Wales and the heir to the throne, waiting because he’s achieved so much because of that, and not being on the throne that is often underestimated and I think he will be a very incredible king.”
Princess Xenia said she has spent a lot of time with Prince William and Prince Harry.
“We’ve been to a lot of the family events, a lot of the Christmas lunches, been to both Prince William and Prince Harry’s weddings, all of the big birthday celebrations we’ve always been included, which is incredibly generous of the Queen.
“And so therefore there is that family link that continues and, and my brother was obviously at the funeral [of Prince Phillip] and some of the family members continued to come and visit at Windsor, so there is an ongoing relationship which is lovely.”
