Today, eBay UK is bursting the sneaker market bubble with the launch of OG Drops – the biggest drop of all time. Through an onsite raffle and the new eBay x Morley’s Sneaker Store pop-up, sneakerheads will be able to get their hands on hyped silhouettes, at the cost of their much lower, original retail price.
As the global sneaker market is expected to reach 24 Billion GBP by 2030* sneakers are becoming a coveted commodity, but one where there’s a perceived lack of fairness around acquiring certain pairs due to bots, backdooring and limited releases.
Restoring a level playing field and striving to get sneakers back on people’s feet, OG Drops will open up the chance to purchase a sought-after silhouette to everyone.
Through a £1 charity raffle on eBay, people can throw their hat into the ring to purchase their sneakers of choice for the original retail price, when the model first launched, whether that was 1985, 1990 or 2006.
Handpicking some of the most sought after silhouettes of the last four decades, as part of the raffle, eBay is offering the £1,800 Air Jordan 1 Low x Travis Scott for only £51; Off White Jordan 2’s, currently reselling at £950, for just £84 and JJJJound x New Balance 992’s, valued at £720 for £78.
To bring the OG Drops experience to life, eBay UK has partnered with legendary London chicken shop Morley’s, to open a first-of-its-kind eBay x Morley’s Sneaker Store.
With tickets available for the public to visit the Sneaker Store at its Brick Lane location on 18 June, they will be able to buy OG sneakers at their OG prices, have a taste of Morley’s famous food, and get the down low in an exclusive fireside chat from Broadcaster, Host and Media Executive, Julie Adenuga unboxing the sneakers industry.
eBay UK has seen first-hand the significant increase in demand for sought after sneakers, OG Drops is set to skip the overpriced resell market and backdooring, and help hyped sneakers make their way back onto people’s feet:
4x more searches for ‘New Balance 550’
125% more searches for ‘Nike Dunk Low’
241% more searches for ‘Yeezy Foam Runner’
177%more searches for ‘Yeezy Slides’
Wahaaj Shabbir, Sneaker Category Manager at eBay UK said: “The great thing about drops is being able to actually get your hands on a pair of sneakers, wear them and show them off. But now that’s become rare! OG Drops resets the sneakers’ value back to their original retail price and means everyone can get in on the action. Whether it’s through the on-site or at our Store at Morley’s, we are encouraging everyone who cops an OG drop at an OG price to give them some love on feet”
Broadcaster, Host and Media Executive, Julie Adenuga said: “Sneakers have always been an integral part of my wardrobe, and their impact on the culture is undeniable. It’s mad to see how much people struggle to secure the shoes they want, so eBay is solving a major challenge by making sneakers accessible without the extra stress. People shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to curate a sneaker collection that they love. I can’t wait to explore how we got here with true OGs at the Sneaker Store very soon.”
