Braintree District Council has decided to honour the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by adding a touch of street furniture to the district’s parks and open spaces.

Three new benches have been installed in the Braintree district to mark 70 years since the Queen’s accession to the throne – Weaver’s Park in Braintree, Halstead Public Gardens and Witham Town Park.

Cllr Frankie Ricci, Cabinet Member for Communities at Braintree District Council, said: “The platinum jubilee is a momentous occasion for the nation and residents across our district. These commemorative benches will add a lasting memorable touch in our district to remember the jubilee for years to come.”

A floral display of summer bedding in red, white and blue has also been created in Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens, Halstead Public Gardens and Witham Memorial Gardens to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Hanging baskets in Braintree town centre and outside Causeway House in Braintree have also been refreshed and replanted in a mix of a purple and platinum to complement the celebrations happening across the district.

Cllr Wendy Schmitt, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and The Environment at Braintree District Council, said: “These new plants really do add a nice splash of colour to our green spaces and tie in perfectly with the jubilee celebrations happening across the district. I am pleased that everyone in the district can go along and enjoy them when visiting our parks and open spaces.”

This weekend marks Queen Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary with a host of events taking place within the community, including street parties and big lunches, jubilee beacon lighting ceremonies and a family trail across Braintree, Halstead and Witham.

The Council has also organised free family trails in Braintree, Halstead and Witham town centres, which run until 12 June and give children an opportunity to learn about the Jubilee in a fun and interactive way.
