UK Children stand in solidarity with Ukrainian Children by raising money through innovative fundraisers

From plunging into sub-zero waters to sponsored head shaves, children across the UK are doing whatever it takes to raise vital funds for the people in Ukraine to help provide food, water, shelter, and
safe places for children to learn and play.

Within the first week of the crisis,
Save
the Children saw community fundraising increase by ten times. At least one in ten (10 per cent) of these fundraisers were from young people determined to raise money to support
the children of Ukraine. In comparison to last year, the charity has seen an 80 per cent increase in young fundraisers wanting to help support children across the world. The amounts raised by these young fundraisers, an average of £1,400, is more than three
times the typical average total of £400.

As well as the usual bake sales and sponsored walks, children have been getting increasingly imaginative and inventive with how they’re raising money for the child’s rights organisation. Children as
young as five have been moved by this war on children. While some have been selling homemade jewellery, others have shaved their hair – all to raise vital funds to help children displaced by the constant shelling across Ukraine. One pair of siblings are walking
43 miles throughout March – the distance that Ukrainian children and their families are having to flee from Lviv in Ukraine to seek refuge in Poland.

Since the escalation, over 7.5 million children across Ukraine1
are in grave danger of physical harm, severe emotional distress, and displacement.

Lisa Aubrey, Head of Regional Fundraising and Engagement, at Save the Children said:
“Over the past three weeks the world has watched as the eight-year conflict in Ukraine spirals out of control. At least 1.5 million children2
are believed to have fled the horrific violence. They’ve had to endure freezing temperatures and brutal conditions, as well as being torn apart from their families. It’s no wonder that we’ve seen an overwhelming uplift in donations and support from the nation
– in particular children, who are determined to help other children their age.

“We are so grateful to have these amazing young fundraisers, full of creativity, courage and drive, to help support those impacted by the conflict. Through their imagination and passion, these children
have demonstrated how forceful children’s voices are and their actions will help provide children who need it the most with a better future. We hope that people will feel incredibly inspired by their tenacity and enthusiasm. Our ambition to make the world
a better place for children around the world simply couldn’t happen without their efforts.”
