TV favourite Christopher Biggins said he understands that the Queen is largely confined to a wheelchair.
Speaking on GB News this morning (Monday March 21) the actor, who has long been friends with many members of the Royal Family, revealed: “I have heard that the reason she’s not doing a lot of the events that she should be doing and cancelling them is because she is in a wheelchair.
“She doesn’t want to be seen, she’s very proud. She’s our greatest ever monarch. It’s so very sad and I hope she is able to make her anniversary celebrations.”
Biggins made his comments during an appearance on the GB News breakfast show with Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster this morning (21 March).
Asked by Eamonn about comparisons with the Queen’s late sister Margaret, whose appearance in a wheelchair shocked the public, he said it was “embarrassing” for her.
Responding to reports that the Queen has had a wheelchair-friendly lift installed at her favourite cottage at Balmoral, Biggins claimed installing lifts in houses is all the rage.
“Everyone I know is putting in lifts,” he said.
“You can fit a lift very, very cheaply if you have the space.
“Two flights of stairs for me now is quite something.”
During this morning’s show Isabel Webster said she felt most Brits would understand if the Queen now needed to use a wheelchair and that she “shouldn’t feel ashamed” in any way.
Biggins’ comments come months after he revealed details of his own health ordeal.
The 73-year-old admitted a hectic work lifestyle is starting to catch up with him.
Back in 2010 after playing at the Edinburgh Festival, Biggins began to feel overly tired, and found it difficult to learn lines. Out of curiosity he went to the doctors who ran some tests, and gave Biggins a shocking diagnosis.
Speaking last December he said: “When I went back for the results, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which was a shock. My diagnosis might be different from others. There are other symptoms that could be a sign of type 2 diabetes; including needing to go to the toilet, being really thirsty, losing weight without trying or blurred vision to name a few.”
