The charity delivers one-to-one family work on a wide range of issues that could be preventing a child from thriving including poor mental or physical health, domestic abuse, relationship breakdown and bereavement.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation will allow the charity to continue its work meeting the new and emerging needs of local families. The charity helps people tackle the underlying causes of their difficulties so that they can go on to lead happy and healthy lives.

Jen Rutter, Project Worker at The Red Hen Project, said: “We were overwhelmed to hear that Barratt and David Wilson Homes wanted to donate £1,000 to us! We very much appreciate the company thinking of us, and the families we support at this difficult time.

“Need is growing week on week as children return to school and problems are being unearthed. Parents are falling into financial difficulties because of redundancy, and poor mental health is on the rise. Thanks to this donation, we can support children and families in these situations. It will make a huge impact and for this we feel extremely grateful.

“Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund Scheme is an amazing initiative donating significant amounts to local charities. It is wonderful that a large organisation recognises smaller local charities. Funding is always a juggling act and the generous donation is a significant contribution that will make a big impact.

“On behalf of The Red Hen Project, I would like to say a huge thank you. It is going to positively impact the families and children we support.”

During the two years up to April 2020, the charity worked with 106 families intensively. Alongside this intensive work, it also reached 317 families through outreach support including drop-in sessions, parenting courses, poverty relief and family trips. During the pandemic these numbers have increased significantly.

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer The Red Hen Project a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
