As part of local efforts to protect communities against the new Omicron variant, local NHS staff and volunteers from Canvey Primary Care Network are driving up efforts to reach deep into their communities by holding regular pop-up outreach clinics at local caravan parks at Thorney Bay and Kings Park.

Dr Yomi Adegbite, Clinical Director for Canvey Primary Care Network said:

“While we have made great progress to deliver the COVID-19 booster programme in the past month, there is still work to be done. There are pockets of low COVID-19 vaccination uptake. With some residents not engaging in the national vaccination programme we wanted to help to bring vaccinations into the community.

I would like to thank our friends at Thorney Bay Park and Sandy Bay for supporting us and welcoming us on site. I would also like to pay tribute to all the fantastic staff, particularly those at GP Healthcare Alliance and volunteers like the local Rotary club who continue to work around the clock, seven days a week to meet the national mission to protect communities against the new Omicron variant. We continue to urge those who are eligible to come forward and get boosted now.”

John O’Dell, health and safety manager at the caravan park said:

“We’re really pleased to be offering COVID-19 vaccinations on site to help protect local residents against the new Omicron variant. The easier we can make it, the better. Thorney Bay Park and Sandy Bay will remain as proactive as possible in supporting residents to stay well and we look forward to working with Canvey Primary Care Network again.’

The Essex Vax Van was used as part of a wider programme of activity to make sure as many people as possible are boosted.

There are currently over 70 sites across mid and south Essex offering COVID vaccinations. Visit https://www.essexcovidvaccine.nhs.uk/ for latest information on when and where.

More than 175,000 people now received their COVID-19 Booster jab across mid and south Essex since the national call to #getboosted was made on 12 December.

The NHS is urging as many people as possible not to delay getting double-vaccinated and to get a COVID-19 booster.

The call is also for those who have not yet had a first jab to do so as soon as possible to avoid serious illness and hospitalisations as the weather turns colder and we head further into winter.
