Families are being urged to revisit a Harlow secondary school to see the raft of improvements made this year.

Mark Hall Academy is inviting prospective students and their parents to visit for an open evening in September.

The school joined the BMAT Education family in January and has since seen a focus on the English, maths, science and humanities curriculums, the introduction of emotional literacy intervention and an online reading programme to improve comprehension and reading skills, as well as a full audit of the provision for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The school, which moved into its brand-new facilities in 2019, also now has a new library, interventions rooms and a student services area.

Along with Manjit Hazle being confirmed as principal, the leadership team has been boosted with the arrival of a vice principal and assistant principals, as well as experienced leaders to head up all core subject areas.

The Trust has also recently appointed a director of SEND to work across its schools to improve outcomes for those with additional needs.

The school is inviting the community to see for themselves, with a tagline Rebuilt, Relaunched, Ready For You – with a new building, new Trust and a new opportunity to meet the community.

Vice principal Rachel Braniff is urging families who have visited the school in the past, to return to appreciate the improvements made.

She said: “We are so excited to be able to open our doors to the Harlow community this September. The school has change so much and is developing daily into becoming a school of choice in the area.

“We will be opening all areas of the school and visitors will be able to not only come and take a look around, but to also take part in a range of fun activities.

“Since we became part of the BMAT family in January, there have been so many changes and improvements. We can’t wait to be able to share them and show them to the Harlow community.

“We are proud of our students who will be at the open evening, so they can share what it’s like to be students at Mark Hall Academy and talk about some of the improvements.

“The academy is not the same place that it was. If you have visited before, it is well worth coming to this open evening; not just to see the new building, but to meet the staff and students and see for yourself the impact BMAT has had.”

Visit the school on September 21 between 6pm and 8pm. Principal presentations will be held at 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
