The team at Yodel’s Basildon depot have raised over £1,000 in a charity football match to donate to St. Vincent’s Centre in Southend-on-Sea, a charity supporting vulnerable people in the local community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, public donations to St. Vincent’s Centre hit a high, but when this dropped off, the Yodel team took matters into their own hands to raise funds for the charity. A Yodel Courier at the Basildon depot, Alex Warren, organised a charity football game at Billericay Town football club, rallying over 30 of his colleagues to get involved. The match was attended by colleagues from across the branch, including the Depot Manager, Operations Manager, and various couriers, as well as players from the charity itself – a great example of Yodel’s team spirit.
St. Vincent’s Centre is a charity Community Support Project that endeavors to help vulnerable people in the local area, providing foodbank services, hot meals, in and outreach support, and household items and clothing.
Aldo Petrozzi, Depot Manager at Yodel, said: “We are proud of Alex’s efforts to rally up the team and organise this charitable event. Not only were we able to raise a sizeable amount of money for a great cause, but it was great to see colleagues and friends come together for one night to switch off and enjoy themselves after a tough 18 months.
“We hope our efforts will make a difference to the local community and we look forward to working with the charity again in the future.”
Daniel Cauchi, Centre Manager at St Vincent’s Centre in Southend-on-Sea, said: “We are so grateful for the support from Yodel and for Alex’s hard work in making the event possible. It was lovely to see such great community spirit with everyone coming together to help the most vulnerable in Southend.”
