HARP, Southend’s homeless charity, has announced that its furniture shop will be moving from London Road to 84 Southend High Street. The charity’s current charity shop at 112 Southend High Street will also move to the same site temporarily while the existing shop is renovated.
The new shop, opening on 17th May 2021, will be the first charity shop of its kind on Southend High Street, providing a range of furniture, electricals and homeware including soft furnishings and bed linen, as well as clothing, accessories, bric-a-brac, books, DVDs and records.
Tracy Dulwich, HARP’s Head of Charity Shops, said: “We are very excited about the move and hope that we can help bring trade to Southend High Street after a very difficult year. We’re looking forward to being positioned in the heart of Southend’s community and in a better position for passing shoppers to pop in and browse.”
The new shop is on the site of what used to be a Moss Bros store, on the corner of the High Street and Tylers Avenue, in front of the Pipe of Port.
There is paid parking just behind the store in the Pitman Close car park, and customers can arrange to collect purchases or drop off donations at the back door.
Collections and deliveries will continue whilst the HARP Team prepare the new shop at 84 High Street to open up on Monday 17th May.
Tracy continued: “Although current restrictions don’t really allow us to have the launch party we’d love to have, it would be fantastic to see as many people as possible in the shop when we open on Monday 17th May, even if you just come and say hi on your lunch break. We can’t wait to move into our new charity shop home!”
The existing London Road Furniture shop has already closed in preparation for the move, and the last day of trading at 112 High Street will be Saturday 8th May.
Donations of furniture, clothing and other items can be dropped off at the new shop during the week of 10th May.
