Harlow Council has served further contract rectification notices on waste contractor Veolia following delays to some of yesterday’s bin collections.
Notices have been served on Veolia for each housing estate which did not have collections completed. These notices now give them 24 hours to complete missed collections. Seventeen areas did not have food waste collections and 18 areas did not have communal bins emptied. There are two areas which did not have non-recycling collections completed. The Council is deeply sorry for the ongoing disruption and is working with Veolia to ensure these collections are caught up with as soon as possible. Yesterday’s missed collections are in the process of being collected this morning.
Following the deployment of additional resources at Veolia’s expense and thanks to a bin crew working on Saturday, last week’s backlog of missed collections were completed. The council recognises that Veolia are making improvements to return the service to normal. The council will continue to work closely with Veolia to ensure these improvements continue.
Where there is poor performance by Veolia the council will continue to issue official contract notices. These notices could eventually lead to fines being imposed on Veolia if improvements are not made. This is all part of the council taking more proactive steps to manage contractor performance.
