Can you help make Evie’s Valentine dreams come true with a warm bed in a loving home – and maybe the occasional treat?
Let’s face it; who wouldn’t want to snuggle up with gorgeous Evie this Valentine’s. But, despite having oodles of charisma, this girl will spend the weekend in care.
Ten-year-old Evie has been with Cats Protection for more than seven months, with lockdown restrictions denying her the chance to charm the usual high number of visitors to the charity’s Haslemere Adoption Centre (https://www.cats.org.uk/haslemere/adopt-a-cat?cid=294692).
Despite online videos and social media appeal, Evie has been overlooked for too long and so a call has gone out to find someone to share some love with this lonely girl.
Suzie Zyta, Haslemere Adoption Centre Manager, said: “Evie is an adorable and affectionate cat with real character and we are keen to find the furr-ever home that she deserves. We’ve appealed via Facebook and she has been featured on our website, but she’s still waiting. There must be someone out there who can find love in their heart and home for Evie.”
Evie came into care more than seven months ago after her elderly owner died. At first she found it hard to adapt to being in a pen alongside other cats and could be quite unpredictable, so the decision was made to temporarily place Evie with one of Cats Protection’s team of fosterers, where she could enjoy a homely environment to ease her anxieties.
Suzie said: “Evie has thrived in the comfort of a home but she cannot stay where she is. She needs to move on to a quiet, calm home where she has the chance to share her true self with an understanding owner who will love and care for her as she settles at her own pace.
“Evie loves to play, especially jumping out of her tunnel when she spots your feet, and there’s no stopping her mad antics when she has a ping-pong ball. She can be surprisingly agile when the mood takes her, especially given that she weighs in at more than 5kg.”
Evie’s fosterer Joe added: “Evie loves getting involved in my DIY projects and will join me on the floor, playing with the screwdriver and anything else lying around. She loves to rummage in open drawers, too. She’s a good companion and has been especially good to have around during lockdown. Her new-found love is a snug radiator bed. Position one of those near your chair and you’ll have a snoozing companion all day long.”
Cats Protection is appealing to experienced cat owners who might be able to give Evie a home. She shows some behaviour linked to anxiety, such as over-grooming and biting if startled, so she will need an understanding owner with a calm adult-only home where she can settle at her own pace. She would enjoy access to a garden, where she can play and explore and burn off some of her excess energy.
Suzie explained: “Noises and sudden movements can alarm Evie and she can act unpredictably. She tends to run towards things she is frightened of, including people if they startle her. This can be a bit alarming as she’s a big girl and is physically quite strong. But when relaxed she is sweet and loves to spend hours in the evening curled on your lap.”
Evie, like a lot of cats in care, has required additional input from Cats Protection’s behaviour and veterinary teams to best support efforts to find her forever home and some support could continue with her new owner after adoption.
