NHS apprentice Sofia Goodchild has been shortlisted for a national ‘Our Health Heroes’ award for her work with NHS Southend and NHS Castle Point and Rochford Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Outstanding NHS apprentices from across the country are to be recognised for the contribution they make to their teams and to the NHS. Sofia is in the running to be named a gold, silver or bronze winner on the day of the awards ceremony, which is taking place virtually on Tuesday, 23 March due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic

Members of the public can help Sofia win gold by casting their vote via the following web link: https://skillsforhealth.org.uk/about-us/our-health-heroes/ before Monday, February 8 2021.

There will be lots of content shares on social media during the voting period using the hashtag #OurHealthHeroes and tag in @skillsforhealth, so it can be re-shared or re-tweeted.

The good news doesn’t end with the shortlisting. Sofia has been so successful in her apprenticeship she has now secured a full-time role with the CCGs as a Partnerships and Integration Administrator.

Sofia said:

“To be nominated for this award so early in my career is such an incredible honour and I’m so grateful to be shortlisted. I feel so fortunate and privileged to work with such inspiring people, especially at this extremely challenging time. I hope this achievement inspires future individuals to apply for an apprenticeship, especially in the NHS”.

Tricia D’Orsi, NHS Alliance Director for South East Essex, said:

“Our staff are the heartbeat of what we do in the NHS and our apprentices are the future of the NHS. I am delighted for Sofia and thrilled that she has been shortlisted. Apprentices such as Sofia are an incredible asset to the NHS and should be celebrated for their contribution. Apprenticeships have transformed the way we recruit and are at the heart of succession planning allowing the organisation to ‘grow our own’ workforce. This exciting new talent stream helps us to create a highly trained, sustainable workforce and the NHS leaders of the future”.
