London Southend Airport today re-opens its terminal doors to passengers travelling over the festive period. With Christmas decorations at the ready and safety measures in place, passengers are wished a very pleasant onward journey.
Glyn Jones, CEO London Southend Airport, “We have worked extremely hard to ensure safety measures are in place to protect our employees whilst delivering confidence to our customers. As London’s most modern airport, the terminal design and space supports social distancing, we have been able to react to requirements efficiently, installing hand sanitiser every 20 paces and screens at all face to face locations.”
Whilst a reduced schedule is in place, latest flight information is available via airlines directly. It is also important for passengers to check the latest Government guidance, both within the UK for departures and arriving – plus at destinations.
The first Ryanair flight to Spain today for example, requires all arriving passengers to have a valid fit to fly certificate, only available via private test providers. A Passenger Locator Form must be completed, and quarantine restrictions may be in place upon return to the UK.

Shops are restaurants remain temporarily closed however vending is available throughout the terminal and a pop-up café serving hot drinks and snacks within departures.
9 out of 10 Passengers travelling via the airport following the initial lockdown rated the new measures as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.
Glyn continues, “At this time, it is more important than ever that we give our passengers the best experience possible. Many customers choose London Southend Airport due to reduced crowding and speed of access. No transfer busses, just a short walk to the terminal from car parks and the railway station and security technology which allows passengers to leave liquids and laptops in their bags make using the airport as easy as it can be in these unprecedented times”.
Feedback from the survey included, “High standards”, “Excellent, masks are mandatory and plenty of hand sanitiser stations, everyone socially distancing. A very safe environment” and “Actually makes it a more relaxing experience!”
As this challenging year draws to an end, the airport is looking forward to making travel simple and safe for all its passengers, over the festive period and beyond.
