Families in need of cheer and joy this Christmas are getting support thanks to help from UK Power Networks.
The electricity firm that keeps power flowing across London, the South-East and East of England will be sending festive packages this week stocked with clothing, stationery, sweets and lots more to children from Great Ormond Street Hospital and the St Vincent’s Family Project as part of their Wishing Well initiative this festive period.
The gift parcels, provided by M&M’S ® LONDON, supports the community work being done as part of a wider project that sees engineers from UK Power Networks upgrade an electricity substation hidden beneath the gardens and iconic ticket office in Leicester Square, replacing three large pieces of equipment over the next two years.
Liam O’Sullivan, head of capital delivery at UK Power Networks, said: “As part of our work to be a corporate responsible citizen we believe it is important so support our local communities wherever possible and create a legacy that lasts. That’s why we engage with local stakeholders and businesses on all our projects. We hope this Christmas donations will bring cheer to the faces of many this festive period.”
Luke Holmes, senior partnership development manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Liam and their team for their generous donation for the patients who are at the Hospital over the Christmas period. We were delighted to receive these on behalf of the Hospital and they will certainly make Christmas extra special for the children – at a time when we need to spread the festive cheer more than ever.”
Andrew Varley, chief executive at St Vincent’s Family Project, added: “This year, because of the pandemic it has been especially hard for families and the mental health and economic impact of covid will last for some time more.
“Christmas has always been a big event with us, partly because we can bring different communities together in celebration at the end of the year. Thanks to the Wishing Well Project we will be able to help more families have a happy Christmas through its generous donations to help them get through this.”
UK Power Networks keeps the electricity flowing for 2.3 million London properties including homes, businesses, schools and hospitals. With more than 10 million people due to be living in London by 2030, the firm is making sure the electricity network is ready for the future.
