the Government has announced that Harlow Council has been unsuccessful in its bid for funding from the Future High Streets Fund.
The Council’s bid for £10.4m to support the Playhouse Quarter and Stone Cross Square projects.
The council and its partners will now be looking for alternative funding to bring these projects forward.
The government has announced £830m to support 72 areas across the country. The Future High Streets Fund has been set up to help local areas make long-term strategies for their high streets and town centres.
Councillor Mark Ingall, Leader of Harlow Council: “We are disappointed that we were not successful in what was a very competitive process. We felt we had a strong enough funding bid and that we had made a strong case for investment in our town. We will continue working to develop and bring forward these plans to regenerate our town centre, and we will work with our partners and others. It might take longer than we would have hoped without this funding, but we are determined to regenerate the town centre. We still hope to be successful in our bid for up to £25m from the towns fund which will support other projects around the town and within the town centre. We will keep working hard to try and get the funding and investment this town needs.”
