You may have passed Chelmsford City Racecourse, but did you know what goes on inside? Throughout the year, you’ll find a whole host of different races and events taking place. Indeed, if you’re looking for something fun to do in the local area, one of the best things you can do is check the events listing page on the website; you’ll always find something fun! In this post, we’re going to take a look at just a selection of the upcoming events that locals and visitors alike can look forward to. These include evening horse races, drive-in pantomimes, and summer music festivals.
At the Races
You may be used to spending time at the racecourse during late spring when the ground hosts its most famous horse races, but did you know that you can also enjoy the racing during the colder months of the year?
Throughout November and December, the ever-popular ‘Thursday Night Under the Lights’ races will take place. The first race is at 4:45 pm; the last is at 7:45 pm. Head down with your friends for an evening of fun and horse racing betting. The atmosphere and good times will certainly help to keep the chill of the autumnal evening at bay! While you can visit on any Thursday, you’ll find that there’s an especially fun atmosphere on December 10 and 17, as these dates coincide with the many office parties that Essex workplaces will organise.
If you and your team are looking for something fun and a little different for your Christmas get-together, then this might just be what you’re looking for.
Christmas Theatre
Chelmsford City Racecourse isn’t all about the horse racing action. That may have been its original purpose, but it also offers much more, especially for families. One such example will happen on Friday, December 11, when an event described as “the world’s first drive-in Christmas show” will take place.
So what is it? It’s a classic pantomime, but for this show, there’s no traditional seating. All you and your family have to do is roll up in their vehicle and watch the show, as performed by the Horrible Histories gang. There’ll be two performances, one at 4:30 pm, with another to follow shortly after, at 7 pm.
It’ll be a performance the likes of which you haven’t seen before, in large part because it’s a new show! Rather than recreating just one classic story, Horrible Histories have concocted a medley of well-known tales and spun them into one entertaining show. A who’s who of Christmas history will be unveiled, with appearances from Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII, and the big man in red himself.
It’s certain to be an entertaining and joy-filled Christmas caper, so make sure you get your tickets and head down to the show.
Music Festivals
We may be well on the way to the fast-approaching the winter season and all the chilly weather and coziness that it brings, but let’s not forget that the summer months will be back with us before we know it. And when it does arrive, you’ll wish you had planned ahead and had an event in the pipeline! Luckily, Chelmsford City Racecourse is providing an opportunity to do just that.
On Saturday, June 19, the ever-popular Clockstock Festival will return for another day of fun at the racecourse. The line-up hasn’t yet been announced, but based on a look at the stars who have appeared in previous years, we can expect that it’ll be a stellar selection of internationally-recognised artists. With all that said, at Clockstock the musicians and DJs on show are secondary to the wonderful atmosphere and fun vibes that always make the event one to remember.
So grab your friends, get your tickets, and make your plans to spend a day of all-out fun together once June rolls around.
As ever, keep your eye on the racecourse’s website to learn of all the other events that’ll be taking place in the future.
