Ahead of Armistice Day, Francis & C Walters Funeralcare, on High Street, will erect a wall of remembrance for members of the community to pay their respects to, and commemorate, British military servicemen and women from World War I and II, through to the present day.
The home is calling on residents across the area to fill out their own personal messages of remembrance on a poppy, which will form part of a large mural and will be displayed in the home’s window for those passing by to read on Remembrance Sunday.
Eve Kimche, who works at Francis & C Walters Funeralcare, said: “As we pass the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, it becomes incredibly important that we keep the memories alive of those who served in the forces and those who sacrificed their lives.
“The window display is a beautiful way to remember the sacrifices and bravery of the area’s service men and women, and enables us to pass those memories onto the next generation.
“The response from the community has been incredibly positive, and it’s nice to see how many people have connected to the project, bringing together their personal and family stories and remembering their lost loved ones.”
Each year, Co-op’s funeral homes create poppy window displays for Remembrance Day, with colleagues around the country working together to visually pay their respects on the high street.
