Residents and groups are being invited to plant a tree for Harlow at a community tree planting day being organised by Harlow Council.
The tree planting event will take place from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 15 December 2019. Residents will help to create and look after three new community groves on green spaces alongside Southern Way. Two areas are at the back of Pear Tree Mead where there are already a number of trees. The other area is next to Longfield on the side of Southern Way.
The event is open to anyone and on the day help and advice will be provided by council officers. Each group of residents will be allocated an hour to plant a group of trees.
The first community tree planting day will officially launch the plant a tree for Harlow scheme. Residents and local groups who have already expressed an interest in the scheme have been invited to take part.
The council is planning a series of further community tree planting days to meet its pledge to plant 1,000 trees and hedgerows over the next year. The pledge received cross-party support back in July when councillors declared a climate emergency.
