Two Colchester schools are celebrating after achieving a profit of over £11,400 on their first collaborative fireworks night.

Home Farm and Prettygate Infant & Junior School joined forces on 7th November to host The Big Bang Family Fireworks Night, bringing a brand new family-friendly event to the West of Colchester and enticing families from both schools, as well as local residents to the event, which included funfair rides, food and drink and a professional display from Dynamic Fireworks.

With a fundraising target of £10,000, the two schools surpassed all expectation, achieving a profit of £11,400, with each school sharing the money equally.

With tickets sales making up most of the profits, the two schools also attracted key local sponsors: Jackson & Co, The Wood Burner Co. and The Woodland Group, as well as media sponsorship from Premier Signs and Ex Why Zed, which helped make the event such a resounding success.

“The event was more successful than we ever could have hoped,” said Elizabeth Humphries, chair of Friends of Prettygate. “Over 1900 people attended the event, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The feedback has been great with parents and children all saying how much they enjoyed the night. It’s definitely an incredibly encouraging start to what we hope will be an annual event from now on.”

“It was fantastic to collaborate with another local school and organise an event which brought together the whole local community,” continues Nikki Whiteford, co-chair of the Home Farm School Association. “We’ve also established a brilliant new relationship with Prettygate Infant & Junior School with parents, staff and head teachers from both schools all helping to make the evening a brilliant success.”

The Big Bang Family Fireworks Night will be back in 2020, taking place at Prettygate Infant & Junior School. If you are a local business and would like to discuss sponsoring next year’s event then please enquire at [email protected]
