Plans for a new swimming pool in Pitsea could move forward when councillors discuss the next steps for the project. They have to pitch the size, location, popularity and budget of the new swimming pool in order for the project to be successful and get approved.
Councillors voted to undertake an appraisal on the development of a swimming pool at Eversley leisure centre in Pitsea and to consult local people on options at the last meeting of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee in September.
At a meeting being held on Wednesday 27 November, the committee will note the findings of the public consultation and discuss the build options and costs. They will also decide whether to authorise a tender for works to develop detailed designs and costs for a modular building. Vice Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee, Councillor Andrew Ansell, said: “It’s clear from the consultation findings that there is a desire for additional swimming pool provision in this part of the borough. Around 80% of the 600 who responded to the consultation said they would use a pool in Pitsea at least once a week.
“The addition of a swimming pool to Eversley leisure centre would complete the centre’s status as the sports hub for Pitsea and could be a very exciting development for the area, which has been deprived a local pool for some time now.”
Eversley leisure centre, owned by Basildon Council and managed by Everyone Active, currently has a 65 station health and fitness suite, workout and spin studios, is used as a base by South Essex Gymnastics Club and has a 3G football pitch.
Should approval be given for the council to tender for work to develop designs and costs a further report with detailed designs and proposals for the projects delivery will appear at a future committee.
