Two trees have been planted in Spayside Walk, Wickford after a telecommunications company donated them as part of their community work.

The Manchurian Cherry trees, which were funded by Virgin Media, were planted by Basildon Council’s Arboricultural and Grounds Maintenance team on Thursday morning. A third tree will be planted at a later date.

Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison said: “These trees have been funded by Virgin Media as part of their work to give back to the community. We are pleased to be able to assist in planting them. They have also volunteered to paint the gates at Wick Country Park in the spring which is also much appreciated. It’s good to see local businesses taking an interest in the community.”

Virgin Media Community Liaison Officer Rob Meekings added: “After building in The Wick for the last 10 months, this was a great opportunity for us to give something back to the community after completing our network expansion to bring ultrafast broadband speeds to the area.’’
