Chelmsford-based insurance broker, Ascend Broking Limited, is helping to spread knowledge of the measures fellow SMEs need to take when it comes to keeping communities strong and counter-terrorism measures robust, by supporting an event of huge relevance to businesses across Essex.
Ascend is the private-sector sponsor of a major counter-terrorism conference, to be staged at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, on September 10. The event is particularly keen to attract Essex-based small and medium-sized businesses not typically within the orbit of counter-terrorism advice.
The Counter Terrorism Policing ACT Corporate Regional Business Engagement Event will be held in Essex thanks to financial backing from Ascend Broking, additional support from Anglia Ruskin University, and collaboration between Essex Region Counter Terrorism Policing, National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters (NCTPHQ) and Essex Police.
The event, which runs from 9.30am to 1pm, will consider the current nature of the UK’s terrorism threat and demonstrate the work that is helping to prepare for and mitigate the risk, particularly. through public and private sector partnership initiatives.
It will also highlight how working in partnership with other members of the Essex community can help protect a business or organisation, whilst underlining that the threat is not just a national one, but one that has relevance at a regional and local level.
Keynote speakers will be from National Counter Terrorism Policing and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure. These experts will emphasise the importance of businesses working alongside law enforcement agencies, if the ability to detect, deter and disrupt the threat from those wishing to attack communities and their way of life is to improve.
Additionally, there will be presentations on the themes of business crime and cyber crime, also highly relevant for anyone in the 21st century business community.
Ascend Broking’s managing director, Matthew Collins, says: “We are delighted to sponsor this hugely important Essex-based event. It is vital that small and medium-sized businesses within the county, as well as bigger and multi-national companies, understand the nature of the threat to their safety, livelihood and trade.
“The aim of this crucial event is to make the Essex business community more resilient and aware of the risks they face. Ascend Broking assesses risks every day, when helping business owners and private individuals across Essex keep their wealth and assets protected in holistic fashion, so there is synergy for us within this sponsorship.
“The key message is that Communities Defeat Terrorism – one with which we fully concur, as it underpins our own programme of support for our local community, in and around Chelmsford and across the county of Essex. This sees us involved with everything from supporting the new Horse Riding and Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Centre at Belsteads School, to sponsorship of Broomfield FC and Essex-based amateur football tournaments.”
