A charity that supports youth carers in Essex is the latest recipient of funding from a leading regional housebuilder.
Young Carers at Carers Choice has received a £1,000 donation as part of the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme.
The scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region.
The group, reliant on donations, provides support to young carers through the provision of meetings and activities where they can meet peers in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Heather Leason, from the group, said: “We are delighted to have received this funding to continue the care and support these young people and their families so desperately need.
“At Carers Choice we offer support to young carers through weekly groups, where youngsters can come along and meet peers as well as take part in exciting activities and learn new skills that will support them in their caring role.
“The group hosts a range of activities which are designed to help youngsters explore their feelings, build confidence as well as enjoy some relaxation.”
Phil Standen, managing director for Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “The role of a carer often goes unnoticed by the outside world and it is wonderful to hear of a group that offers such great support to youngsters in the local area.
“We are delighted to be able to help them in this way.
“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
