How much longer will residents in Wickford need to put up with disruption caused by roadworks at the Co-op roundabout in Wickford and what are they supposed to achieve – these are the questions Leader of Basildon Council Councillor Gavin Callaghan is asking Leader of Essex County Council today (Monday 19 August).
Cllr Callaghan and Cllr David Harrison, Chair of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee, have jointly written to Cllr David Finch at Essex County Council on behalf of Wickford residents who have been in touch regarding the ongoing roadworks and resulting disruption at the roundabout.
In the letter, the councillors also question the lack of communication about the purpose of the roadworks with Basildon Council and Wickford residents and the ‘lack of opportunity to comment on them’.
Cllr Callaghan said: “In a couple of weeks schools will be back open which will only add to the congestion in the area if the roadworks aren’t finished. That’s why I am keen to get answers to the questions that residents need, like when will this disruption end and what difference will the road layout changes make?
“Wickford has been on the receiving end of a raw deal from Essex County Council in recent years. I’m determined to improve this and ensure Wickford gets a fairer deal”.
