Harlow is in for a weekend of treats on 29 and 30 June as the Big Weekender brings three special events to the town.
On Saturday 29 June, the latest Harlow Makers Market will be in Market Square from 11am until 4pm. Local makers, bakers and creators will be on hand selling a range of bespoke and handmade crafts, food, jewellery and more.
The Harlow Carnival rolls back into town on Sunday 30 June from midday. There are 1,000 set to take part in the procession, which this year will set off from Harlow Rugby Club on Howard Way and make its way up to First Avenue and then along to Market Square.
The procession will feature floats – many being provided by Hoddesdon Distribution – walking groups, cars and buses all creating a fantastic party atmosphere for the community.
Please bear in mind that there will be road closures in place along the route to protect onlookers and ensure that the procession runs smoothly and safely. There will also be some disruption to the bus station; it will be closed between midday and 3pm but there will be drop-offs and pick-ups taking place along Haydens Road during this time.
Once the procession has ended in Market Square, the Big Weekender will wrap things up with the End of Carnival Show Show. Performances begin at 2.30pm and feature some exceptional acts, many of whom performed at the Celebrate Harlow Event earlier this year.
Councillor Eugenie Harvey, Portfolio Holder for Community and Wellbeing, said: “We are very excited to be bringing a fantastic weekend of fun and entertainment to Harlow.
“Harlow has always had a very strong community spirit and it is important that we continue to build on and encourage that; our community of local creatives have the chance to showcase their wares at the Makers Market, and the Carnival and End of Carnival Show Show will have the very best of our town’s talent on display for all to see.
“I am keeping my fingers crossed for bright and sunny weather but even if it does rain it won’t dampen Harlow’s spirits!”
