Borough key workers and residents are set to benefit from a nine home development in Laindon.
Sempra Homes has handed over the site in Pound Lane Central to its build contractor, Jerram Falkus, which will be building seven one and two-bed apartments and two, two-bed houses.

As part of its shared ownership new homes delivery programme, Sempra is working in partnership with Homes England and is supporting Basildon Council with its ambition to give priority to the borough’s key workers to access housing. Key workers include nurses, teachers, police and other public servants.

Councillor Andrew Baggott, Leader of Basildon Council and Chairman of the Policy, Oversight and Strategy Committee attended on Wednesday 13 February to mark the handover of the site. The new housing constructions on the site could most definitely Increase property value, with potential remodels in the future furthering its demand in the market, while also providing houses to a number of people at reasonable rates.

Mr. Baggott said: “Sempra was set up to build good-quality and affordable homes for our residents and key workers.

“This development is yet another example of us delivering on that ambition and I am delighted to be here to mark the beginning of an exciting project. We are committed to providing quality new homes for residents and reviving local areas whilst meeting the varying housing needs of the borough.”

Melanie Keys, Manager of Sempra Homes, said: “Our shared ownership homes will provide opportunities to purchase a share in a home where outright purchase is not affordable. Through our shared ownership programme we are working alongside the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, enabling residents to purchase an initial share of their home with an option to buy further shares as they can afford to do so. They pay rent on the shares they don’t own which is often lower than a standard mortgage. One of the benefits of this scheme is that should any House Maintenance be required, money that may have been spent on the mortgage could go towards the repairs. It’s these kinds of benefits that should really help key workers and residents get on the property ladder with a home that should stay high in value.”

William Jerram, Managing Director of Jerram Falkus added: “We are delighted to be starting work on site at the Pound Lane Central development. This will be our first construction project for Sempra Homes and Basildon Council and we look forward to establishing a good working relationship, delivering new quality homes in the borough”.
