National Lottery millionaires have pulled out all the stops to give Young Carers from across Essex the ultimate Christmas party (Thursday 13 December). Complete with makeover sessions, mocktail bar, festive photobooth, reindeer rodeo and all manner of disco-craziness the children were treated like true VIPs at their own exclusive event.
With a combined wealth of over £38 million, The National Lottery winners spent the day hard at work creating a magical winter wonderland before welcoming the party-goers to the exclusive venue. The Young Carers, who ordinarily are juggling normal school life with caring for a family member, were made to feel like true superstars with a number even being chauffeur driven to the party by the lottery winners.
After a busy day decorating and prepping for the party, the lottery winners then hosted the evening by serving food and drinks and entertaining the VIP revellers, aged between 8 and 16 years, who are supported by the Essex charity, Action for Family Carers (AFFC).
All the winners were intent on giving the children a Christmas party to remember, from Desiree Home (£1M) who’s whipping up a storm with her face painting and Andrea Holmes (£2.5M) who’s putting her hairdressing skills to good use, to Daniel and Charlotte Peart (£1M) who are manning the mocktail bar and the lottery ladies Lou Allen (£13.8M) and Charmaine Watson (£2.3M) led by florist Barb Derry-McClellan (£2.3M) running a creative Christmas corner.
Essex carer and lottery winner Sue Richards, who revealed a £3M win on a National Lottery Scratchcard in 2016, has some small understanding of the challenges these children face on a daily basis.
