Three volunteer police officers from Essex Police who give up their time to police our coastline have been shortlisted for a national Home Office award.

The Lord Ferrers Awards ceremony which were created in 1993 by former Home Office Minister, Lord Ferrers is hosted by the government to recognise and highlight the valuable contribution volunteers across the country give to policing.

Special Constables Shane Bartley, Simon Boygle and Toby Speller from our Marine Unit have been shortlisted for the Special Constabulary Team award at this year’s Home Office Lord Ferrers Awards.

Shane, Simon and Toby have volunteered almost 1,200 hours between them so far this year to help police Essex’s coastline – which is one of the largest coastlines in the country. The officers patrol just under 400 miles from the Dartford River Crossing to Harwich.
