This September, intu Lakeside will be helping Macmillan Cancer Support by bringing the Essex community together to raise money as part of the annual fundraising campaign ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.
Refreshments, cakes and sweets donated by Patisserie Valerie and Mr Simms will be provided for shoppers on Friday 28 September for a donation towards Macmillan who provide vital services for those living with cancer.
Howard Oldstein, regional centre director at intu Lakeside said, “Making a meaningful difference is incredibly important to us at intu Lakeside, we aim to work with local and national organisations such as Macmillan with a shared purpose of creating better communities. We are looking forward to welcoming customers to help us take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and raising money to help change people’s lives.”
Cancer can affect every aspect of a person’s life, from their day-to-day living and relationships to their finances and mental health – and Macmillan is there to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can, but this relies on the generosity of the public.
Offering a broad range of cancer information and support services – including a free support line and a community of more than 7,700 healthcare professionals – demand for Macmillan’s services is constantly growing, but the charity receives no government funding.
Amy Parmenter, Regional Fundraising Manager at Macmillan said, “The first Macmillan Coffee Morning took place in 1990, when a handful of people came together for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, and made a donation to Macmillan to help support people living with cancer. But Coffee Morning has grown over the years and saw more than 2,610 events taking place in Essex in 2017, raising more than £640,000 for people living with cancer.”
The money raised at intu Lakeside’s Coffee Morning will enable Macmillan to continue providing these vital services, helping to change the lives of people with cancer in Essex.
