Enthusiastic singers and talented young musicians from across Colchester are being offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform alongside The Band of The Parachute Regiment, Colchester Military Wives’ Choir and the Colchester Garrison Fijian Choir in a concert to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One.
In a collaboration between Roman River Music and Colchester Garrison, the 100 Voices, 100 Years concert, being held on September 29th at the University of Essex, will be the culmination of several projects bringing together people from the Garrison and the community to mark Armistice 100. This uplifting concert will be led by one of the world’s foremost choral leaders, Dominic Ellis Peckham.
People across Colchester and the surrounding villages with a passion for singing are being invited to be involved in the 100 Voices, 100 Years project by joining the Roman River Come and Sing! Choir. Members of the choir will perform alongside Colchester Military Wives’ Choir, the Colchester Garrison Fijian Choir and primary school children from Colchester. The choirs will perform a number of works selected by them, as well as a substantial new commission by local composer Anthony Bailey. Singers must be available for rehearsals on 9th, 16th and 23rd of September, as well as for the concert on 29th September.
Meanwhile, talented young musicians have a unique opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside The Band of the Parachute Regiment. Brass, woodwind, including some of the best flute players, and percussion musicians aged 14 to 26 are being invited to participate in the Side-By-Side Project to play alongside these world-class musicians throughout the 100 Voices, 100 Years concert. Applicants should play at Grade 5 or above, and need to be available for rehearsals on 14th, 18th and 25th September, as well as the concert on 29th September.
