Leading councillors and officers at Basildon Council have met with the Chief Executive of Empire Cinemas to celebrate exciting proposals to transform East Square.
The plans for East Square including the 10-screen cinema, which will include the biggest screen outside of Leicester Square, and six new restaurants were approved by Basildon Council’s Planning Committee on July 24.
The redevelopment, which also includes significant improvements to the look and feel of the square, will make the area a beacon for leisure and evening entertainment, creating a thriving night-time economy.
Gaining planning approval was a significant milestone in the delivery of the council’s ambitious regeneration plans for the town centre which will bring a much needed boost to the local economy. This is the next key step in the transformation of the town centre along with significant public improvements in St Martin’s Square and South Essex College to bring its state-of-the-art Digital Technology Campus into Market Square.
