- From Monday 5 March to Friday 9 March, Essex based RSE Group will be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week. RSE Group’s Founder and Managing Director, Russell Stilwell, is passionate about inspiring young people to consider a career in the construction industry. He believes that the next generation of talent is central to making the sector even greater. Over the past five years the business has successfully supported 12 young people through apprentice courses (seven who are fully qualified and five who are currently studying).
Russell comments: “For me, supporting young people to develop their career prospects outside of the classroom is an obvious choice for businesses. The vast majority of young people are eager to learn and quick to develop skills. Taking the step to employ apprentices can bring many benefits to both the individual and the business as a whole. This is something which is very apparent at the RSE Group. It’s so rewarding to be part of the development of the brightest young talent.”
Construction plays a huge role in the UK’s economy, but there is often a misconception about a profession in the industry. As a result, many young people are reluctant to explore what career options the construction industry offers. In fact, a survey by YouGov in 2015 found that just 3% of 18-24 year olds (1% female) have actively searched for a role in the construction industry. Russell is determined to change this.
He believes that we need to embrace students who are artistic, innovative and streetwise, to offer them a more robust alternative to traditional schooling. The education system should support these individuals to enter a career in which they can shine – apprenticeships are the ideal way to take the first step.
