A local fundraiser has smashed his target by raising £11,244 for Help for Heroes with a charity golf day and hog roast.
Walton man Colin Martin organised the event for a seventh year; in total raising a staggering £55,597.
The event has become so popular that tickets to play in the tournament this year sold out within the hour! 132 players competed in the tournament with many more staying for entertainment in the evening.
Colin was originally inspired to start up the event after his colleague’s son, Lance Corporal Josh Boggi, lost an arm and both legs in Afghanistan after triggering an explosive device.
Mr Martin chose Help for Heroes after seeing how much they supported the soldier with his rehabilitation.
Colin is donating the money raised to the local Help for Heroes Recovery Centre in Colchester.
