We had an interview with leading model Karina Zakaryan to talk about how she started and how modelling makes her feel.
How did you get your start?
I was offered work in model agencies since I was 15. It was interesting, but I knew that my priority is higher education.
During the last years I have combined education with office work. Approximately two years after graduation, I received another offer of model work. I decided to try. I have already had a contract after a month for a fashion week Milan.
Whats really happens backstage at a Fashion show ?
Fashion weeks can only be described with one word: hectic. During the fashion week you can forget about a dream at all because of castings, fitting, shows.
Sometimes models will have to crisscross the city to get from one show to the next, leaving mere minutes to get scrubbed clean and start all over again.
What makes the job exciting for you?
It’s certainly a creative process, every shot is unique, every time you get into a new project where you meet new people. there is no place for routine in this work.
What is the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
You know, you can wax on so much about your figure and your skin and your face and all of those really important, and I’m all about skin and keeping it healthy, but if you don’t have confidence, none of it matters.
And I feel like confidence is such a huge part of being attractive. But I wasn’t always confident, it took me awhile to kind of assume my role in fashion and feel attractive and be able to walk into a room.
What do you feel most confident in?
Just a really sexy pencil skirt and a shirt. It’s changed—I’m all about power dressing now and dressing as a woman and feeling sexy and powerful.
What do you hope to be doing in the next 5 years?
In the near future I would like to continue my modelling career, improve and grow as a professional. And of course to travel, there are so many beautiful and amazing places in the world where I have not visited yet.
